Astromeda is a story-driven, fast-paced & turn-based RPG inspired by Undertale, Celeste, and Hollow Knight where you explore the world, overcome hurdles and fight in a battle system that combines traditional turn-based actions with real-time attack dodging, similar to Metroidvania game bosses.

The music for the game is composed by Eric E. Hache!

Combat

Fight enemies in a unique battle system that combines turn-based combat with fast-paced attack dodging!

Story

A prophecy was foretold across the Earth. It was said that an asteroid would collide with the planet in the next century. The prophecy, indeed, was true and the asteroid met its fate with Earth, leaving it empty and uninhabitable. After the destruction, a new bacteria was birthed from the ruins of the asteroid. Advanced in size and technology, it had the ability to duplicate itself into enormous numbers. As a result, a new race of thriving bacteria plagued the Earth, forming a peaceful colony. After a millennium, the Earth finally became habitable for human life once again. A group of four humans, sent out on a mission during the previous disaster returns to their home planet but in a terrible twist, crashes upon arrival - not knowing what is in store.

Astromeda

Astromeda is being solo developed by me apart of the music which is composed by Eric E. Hache! which really takes a lot of time and effort! You can support me by following the game's social media and checking out the game's Kickstarter!

This demo takes place in the first area of the game and is only a small portion of what's planned for the final release!

Found a crash after i unlocked the dash ability:

Anyway, I watched the rest of the demo via the videos posted here. I fail to see what exactly you are trying to do differently from Undertale, particularly with the whole "option to not kill things but only level up if you do" motif. Coupled with the fact that everyone says you're stronger than the creatures you encounter... im not sure how this leads to a message other than showing how you hold the sole agency to save or destroy everyone, as in Underrtale.

I do like Per. It's clear he's using you to accomplish his own goals, and given the fact he deceived you earlier, you still don't know whether to fully trust him. I also like that you also have the goal of finding your crewmates; and wonder if there will come a time when you have to choose between those two options.

I'd recommend workshopping the story a bit to make it distinct from Undertale. Personally, I'd start by giving the MC dialogue and a real personality instead of remaining mostly silent; instead of just accepting Per's offer to take down the queen, they ask for his help in finding their crewmates in return. Or maybe they share their thoughts on the new creatures inhabiting Earth. Do they admire them, that life finds a way? Or are they angry and eager to take Earth back from them? How do they react to finding out their crewmates are being "researched on"?  Make them have their own thoughts and reactions independent of the player's inputs.

As for the art quality, it's bad, but I'm not going to complain about it here. I consider it effectively placeholder/draft sprites, and hope you continue to improve your artistic skill and refine the sprites at a later time.

Hi there! First of all thanks for leaving your feedback!

- I'll look into the crash right away and find a fix!

- I'm glad you liked Per, and it seems like you understood the character.

Indeed, I want to create a game that encompasses what I really liked about Undertale, which was slowly figuring out the story through the mouths of others, rather than having the main character talk or have a personality. I want the main character to be viewed differently by each Player. I specifically made sure the player has a mask, to make it's gender-neutral, just so anyone can decide for themselves what type of a person the MC is.

Although I do get your point.

The core concept of the game (this is something I didn't show in the demo because I planned for this to be revealed in the full game) is that humans are more evolved biologically than Bacteria. That is because humans in Astromeda exist for thousands of years, unlike the bacteria, which are less than 100 years old. That is why the MC is so much stronger than everyone. In the full game, my plans are to make the Queen find a way to combat this. Your original goal is to simply save your crewmates, but you quickly realize that there is something much bigger at stake. The queen is acting like an Emperor toward all of her citizens and she plans to begin to conquer other planets. You realize that you have to take her down, for the sake of everyone, let alone for the sake of the human race. You go on an adventure meeting powerful warriors which you befriend to ultimately defeat the Queen and save the world. (Of course, there's always a twist here and there, and in the end ;)

If you look at the game's logo on itch.io, you can see that there's a small robot near the player. This robot is planned to be a companion you meet which will be your closest friend throughout the journey. The idea of this robot is to give reactions to certain things that happen. These reactions will be used for comical or serious purposes. The robot could also help you out during the game. This is something planned for the full release.

The message I want to deliver with this game is different than the "showing how you hold the sole agency to save or destroy everyone", but unfortunately, the beginning of the game does make it seem like it's a similar message. I do totally get why you think that.

I REALLY like this idea you suggested: "instead of just accepting Per's offer to take down the queen, they ask for his help in finding their crewmates in return." I do feel like this makes more sense for sure, and I will work on changing the ending sequence with Per to fit this idea!

About the art, I'm sorry you feel that way. But I understand where it's coming from. I am fully aware that the art can most certainly be better, and I will keep on working on improving it. The game has gotten really awesome funding to help create the full game (not quite enough, which is why a Kickstarter is needed) but the funding it's gotten so far is planned to go to an artist that is going to help me complete the full game with much better art! I made the art for the demo, but with the help of the new artist, I believe the full game will look much better! Mostly people seem to be fine with the art, but I do strive to make this game the best it can be! :D

Thank you, again, and I hope you give this game a chance!

I played the demo

Thank you so much for trying out my demo! It was fun watching you play it! I'll take your feedback into consideration. I'll look into the changes to the battle system.

Anyhow, if you want to support the game, there's a pre-launch Kickstarter page up where you can press on "Notify me on launch" which would send you a notice when the Kickstarter goes live :D

Thank you again so much for trying out that prototype a while ago as well :)

I like what I played. Had a snag here and there but I enjoyed the combat and look forward to seeing more of this game and the story you want to tell.

Thank you so much for trying it out! Loved watching you play it!

If you like Undertale you must play this! It's fresh take on the combat system is definitely interesting, and the characters and mechanics at play show a lot of promise for the future

Aww, thank you so much for the kind words!
